About the Trust

Trustees The Most Reverend Jerome E. Listecki, Kristine O'Meara, and Mary Ellen Stanek welcome you to the Faith In Our Future Trust website.

The Faith In Our Future Trust was established in 2007 to administer and distribute the contributions given through the Faith In Our Future Campaign for Catholic education and faith formation. These initiatives encompass specific projects within 207 archdiocesan parishes and six initiatives deemed priorities by the Archbishop of Milwaukee. Trustees have fiduciary responsibility for the administration of the Trust.

Statements From Faith In Our Future Trustees

November 9, 2012 -- The Unsecured Creditors Committee in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee bankruptcy case has filed motions with the bankruptcy court requesting that the Committee be allowed to sue a number of entities, including the Faith in Our Future Trust (as well as the parishes of the Archdiocese). The contemplated suits must be filed by January 4, 2013, or else they will be barred by the statute of limitations.

The Faith In Our Future Trust is a separate 501(c)(3) entity, independent of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. The Trustees have reviewed the claims the Committee has indicated that it intends to bring against the Trust and believe the claims to be unfounded and to lack merit. While the Trust is thus prepared to defend against the claims, the Trust wishes to focus its resources on carrying out the Trust's purpose of supporting Catholic education and faith formation in southeastern Wisconsin.

In these circumstances, to defer and perhaps avoid ever having to defend against a lawsuit, the Trustees have entered into a tolling agreement with the Committee and Archdiocese on November 9, 2012. The Committee’s stated purpose in seeking the tolling agreement is to allow the Archdiocese and the Committee to focus on pursuing claims under certain insurance policies, which are unrelated to the Trust. This tolling agreement extends the statute of limitations for claims against the Trust for up to one year; it also requires the other parties to the agreement to forbear from pursuing any claims against the Trust during the period of the agreement. If the tolling agreement expires and a lawsuit is thereupon brought against the Trust, the Trustees intend to vigorously defend against the suit.
